Throws: (4) Kube-Nage

Neck Throw or Neck Drop.

The Golden Rule For All Throws: In this order- Hands then Hips then Feet!

Hands = imbalance opponent; Hips = get close to opponent; Feet = finish opponent off!

Close body contact is essential for successfl throwing.


If you apply this to your throwing, you will always be successful!

Strategy for this throw:

Note: For beginners we teach this throw from a basic take hold position.

Hands,Hips & Legs: Take hold. Push your opponent backwards and when he responds and pushes back, off-balance him to his right front corner pulling him forward with your left hand (as before).(Tai-Sabaki) Step toe to toe, your right foot to his right foot. Bend your knees and pivot to your left (you now face same direction as your opponent), simultaneously (this time) rub your opponents neck with right forearm on his left side (advanced: reverse ken) and turn or rotate palm outwards (this helps put the opponents weight on his right leg) and rap arm around, pulling his neck in between your forearm and bicep. Shoot your right leg out (close to) and past his right leg and twist and throw. Dropping your opponent to the ground.

NB!The throw should be done in one fluid,smooth-flowing motion!

Kube-Nage introduces the begginer to "Neck throws/drops". It is a very practical easy to execute throw! Even on its own, in a basic way, this is a devastaing throw which can cause serious damage to your opponent!

Note: The method described here is a begginers wrestling method. In the street one could be a lot more violent. There are many more violent variations we will deal with at a later time. As well as, correct breathing and other advanced details. e.g. Reverse Ken-Grip.

One Arm Shoulder Throw.

The Golden Rule For All Throws: In this order- Hands then Hips then Feet!

Hands = imbalance opponent; Hips = get close to opponent; Feet = finish opponent off!

Close body contact is essential for successfl throwing.

If you apply this to your throwing, you will always be successful!

Strategy for this throw:

Note: For beginners we teach this throw from a basic take hold position.

Hands,Hips & Legs: Take hold. Push your opponent backwards and when he responds and pushes back, off-balance him to his right front corner pulling him forward with your left hand. (Tai-Sabaki) Step toe to toe, your right foot to his right foot. Bend your knees and pivot to your left, simultaneously throwing your right arm under his right arm. You now face the same direction as your opponent. Bend your right arm at the elbow to trap his arm between your bicep and forearm, pulling him forward and down. Using your left hand, hold his arm firmly against your chest (a bit advanced - this puts pressure on a pressure point on our opponents bicep which your shoulder digs into, & helps in) lifting your opponent onto his tippy-toes (balls of feet) and onto your back. Make sure both of your knees are fully bent and that your center of gravity is over the tips of your toes, watch your posture, and make sure there is body contact and opponent is off-balance on his toes. Straighten your knees, bow at the waiste and look behind you to your left. Once again, one fluid,smooth-flowing anti-clockwise motion!

This action will throw your opponent over your right shoulder and down infront of you.

NB!The throw should be done in one fluid,smooth-flowing motion!

Ippon-Seoi-Nage introduces the begginer to "Shoulder throws". It is a very practical easy to execute throw! Even on its own, in a basic way, this is a devastaing throw which can cause serious damage to your opponent! - "Ippon!" ( Game Over! :-) )

Hip Throw or Hip Roll

The Golden Rule For All Throws: In this order- Hands then Hips then Feet!

Hands = imbalance opponent; Hips = get close to opponent; Feet = finish opponent off!


Close body contact is essential for successfl throwing.


If you apply this to your throwing, you will always be successful!

Strategy for this throw:

Note: For beginners we teach this throw from a basic take hold position.

NB!This throw requires total body co-ordination!!!

Hands,Hips & Legs: As your opponent pushes you, pull him off balance with your left arm to his right front corner. Pivot on your Right foot, (stepping toe to toe - right foot to right foot) moving Left foot back(Tai-Sabaki)in as close as possible to other foot (in an anti-clockwise arc; you are now facing the same direction as your opponent); bend both your knees and lower your hips(and center of gravity). Simultaneously, bring your right arm under his left and put your Right hand on his left scapula (top of back near shoulder); Actively Pull, and hug tightly, your opponent in close to your hip. Keep pulling and twisting in an anti-clockwise direction with your left arm.

As you lift him from below staighten your knees, twist your hip and look behind you to your left and bow at the waiste (upper body parallel to ground) and throw him to the ground! i.e. The opponent bumps into and trips over your hip!

Remember: Keeping your back straight and good posture ensures your strength.

NB!The throw should be done in one fluid,smooth-flowing motion!

Note: Hip throw forms the basis for all hip techniques and is very important to the beginner because it employs an easy Tai-Sabaki footwork movement as well as the fact that the arms,hips and legs are fully used in one fluid anti-clockwise motion! An approximately180 degrees turn.

Also Note: The method described here is a begginers wrestling method. In the street one could be a lot more violent; Instead of pulling the opponents arm for eg. one could grab the leg off a front snap kick or even a round house (advanced) and perform the rest of the throw as above, crushing his "privates" in the process! as well as imbalancing him! There are many more violent variations we will deal with at a later time. As well as, correct breathing and other advanced details.

(Major) Outer Reaping Clip or Hock Trip


The Golden Rule For All Throws: In this order- Hands then Hips then Feet!

Hands = imbalance opponent; Hips = get close to opponent; Feet = finish opponent off!

Close body contact is essential for successfl throwing.

If you apply this to your throwing, you will always be successful!

Strategy for this throw:

Whether the opponent retreats or advances bring him off balance to his right back corner and reap his right leg with your right leg.

Note: For beginners we teach this throw from a basic take hold position.

Pulling with your left hand and pushing with the right hand creates imbalance; especially if you bend/twist your opponents spine thereby ruining his posture and weakening him.

Hands: Simultaneously advance your right foot towards his right foot (make sure to retain your own balance - chin slightly down and infront of body, center of gravity downwards & knees slightly bent.) When he retreats take a big step forward placing your left foot near the side of his right foot. Pulling with the left hand and pushing with the right.

Hips: Place your chest and hips up against your opponents chest and hips.(moving in close forces him to stay off balance if he trys to recover. It is very dificult for him to fight your body weight!) (make sure to retain your own balance - chin slightly down and infront of body, center of gravity downwards & knees slightly bent.)

Legs: Lift right leg up high and reap using the back of your leg between bottom of knee and heel to strike the same area of your opponents leg. Follow through buy sending your nose down towards the ground/ bow your head towards the mat at your waiste(this retains your posture/strength/balance); and lifting your leg up high behind you maximising the force of your strike in a see-saw circular-arc motion!

This will take your opponents legs from under him and send him crashing to the ground;landing on his back!

NB!The throw should be done in one fluid,smooth-flowing motion!

O-Soto-Gari introduces the begginer to "leg throws". It is a very practical easy to execute throw!

Note: The method described here is a begginers wrestling method. In the street one could be a lot more violent; while pulling the opponents arm for eg. one could simultaneously execute a palm strike to your opponents chin to stun/injure him as well as imbalancing him! There are many more violent variations we will deal with at a later time. As well as, correct breathing and other advanced details.
